DEATH OF A PIONEER.
Per United Press Association; WELLINGTON, Jane 9. John Howard Wallace, one of the eldest identities in Wellington, died thiß morning from heait disease, aged 75. Mr Wallace arrived in Wellington in 1840, and took am active part in drawing up the petition to the House of Commons, p- ay ing that a Constitution should ba framed fo- New Zealand. The deceased was an auctioneer for many years, *nd was the principal author of " The Early History of New Zealand."
