CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor of the Colonist.
Sib, In reply to a statement made in your oritio of the Art Exhibition being held in the Bishop's School, it is said n Lake Manapouri " tke sky is not oharaoteriatio of such a scene." I muet/kawsTer, with all due defereno9 to your knowledge ef New Zealand and art, taks exception to that statement, and say it is most daeidedly characteristic of Lake Mariapouri, for anyone may see by the merest glanea at the map of that country that the above l&ke is in close proximity te the West Coast Sounds, and if your reporter visited it at a time when he had naora than two fine days in & week, ho was more fortunate than I when I visited it in February, 1388, after waiting over two weeks for the throe only partly clear daya I had for visiting Lakes Te Anau aad Manapouri, and if people generally believe that Nelson climate is to be found at all times of year in any part of New Zealand, they have only to spend a year in tha South as I have dose, and I veature to say tney will return to this sunny clime the wiser and the less hypercritical of faithful representations of other parts of their " Wonderland." Thanking you for your valuable space, Yours, <feo, H. J. Da Fcbibt. Nelson, May 22,1889.
