Arthur O'Connor, member for East Donegal, and Sir Thomas Esmonde Bart, member for Dublin County, have sailed for America to lecture in that country regarding Ireland. B.M.S. Ruapehu sailed from Flymouth yesterday for New Zealand. Shortly after his release from prison on bail, Mr O'Brien, who was closely watched by the authorities, succeeded by a series of elaborate ruses in evading the. police, and at once proceeded to address a meeting of the National League, which the Government had proclaimed, but which took place outside Mitohellstown. In his speech Mr O'Brien defied the Government. Dr Tanner, M.P. for County Cork (Mid.) addressed a meeting of Nationalists yesterday at Fermoy, County Cork. In endeavoring to disperse the gathering, a severe conflict took place between the police and the people, the former freely using their batons. Fifteen of the crowd were severely injured. The mob retaliated by stoning the police. September 26. It is officially announced that an agreement has been arrived at between the British and Canadian Governments to jointly subsidise the monthly mail service between Van Couvers Island, China and Japan. A French lieutenant with a gamekeeper, while out shooting close to the Franco-German frontier, was shot at yesterday by some unseen persons on the German side of the frontier, who are supposed to have been Customs officials. The gamekeeper was killed, and the lieutenant had his thigh shattered by a ball. Later. It has been ascertained that the persons who shot at and wounded a French lieutenant, and at the same time killing the gamekeeper who accompanied him, are the keepers of a German estate on the frontier. They assert that they fired at the Frenchmen believing them to be poachers, The French Government have taken a diplomatic action in the matter. CONSTANTINOPLE, September 25..
