The Nelson Jockey Club.—The Bottling in connection with the late race meeting will take place at the Masonic Hotel this evening at eight ©'clock. A meeting of the Stewards and Committee of the club will also be held at 4he same place. In referring to the late meeting it may here be mentioned that the race horses Exchange, Hero, and Liability were put up for sale by auction on Saturday by Messrs Sharp and Sons, and the horses Black Doctor, Manfred, and Good Friday were also put up by Messrs J, James and Co., but in each Case the animals werejbought in. The Waimea Elkctobate.—The electors for the Waimea will observe that Mr J. Shephard, M.H.E., has announced the dates on which he will meet them at the several centres. Mr Shephard has taken the course of meeting his constituents prior to tbe meeting cf Parliament rather than at its close, and with all the rumors whioh are now current he will probably have many interesting things to say at Richmond to-night. The meeting will commence at half-past seven in the Oddfellows Hall. Self-made Men.—We remind our readers of the lecture to be delivered by the Eev. H. J. Lewis in the Congregational Church this evening, when his subject, " Self-made Men," will no doubt prove a most interesting one. The chair will be taken by Mr Fearnley, M. A. Life Assurance.—Mr A. M'Kellar Wix has been appointed travelling agent for this and the neighboring Provincial Districts to the Colonial Mutual Life Association Society (Limited), and will, we understand, take_ up his abode in Nelson again. The Society has been established some ten years, and the conditions on which it issues polioies are most liberal. "Advice is often seen, by blunting us, to make our wits more keen."
