PITY THE BLIND.

To the Editor of the Coloniit.

Sib,—Howerer unprofitable it is to the cause in hand, I feeUt; » my duty 1 to point out to " Chronista" that such ungentlemanly insinuations as he indulges in have nothing to dp with the question at issue, aud is a further proof of his unfitness for a puolic advocate.

1 pointed out in my last that " Chronista" was not capable of grappling with the quession. This opinion, in his last letter he honestly acknowledges to be true. "My inability," he says, "to grapple with the question which has for years defied the intelligence of Great Britain and America is scarcely to be wondered at." Having thus admitted his incapacity, he in hi* sixth paragraph and twenty-second line says— " We can frame measures to stop the curse of intemperance." In the name of reason, what does he mean ? If he is capable of doing so, why does he say he is not ? and why does he wish the public to take pity on his inability ,to grapple with the question ? Why hag he not in his two long letters advanced his cause, instead of filling them with weak detailed repetitions and personalities? Lastly, why on earth, sir, did he fill two of your.columns.with an objection to your article merely to prove, that the subject was beyond his comprehension? I am sorry to* have to take up your valuable space in replying, without furthering the cause at issue.—Yours, &c,

c;h.m.
