OLD SCOTLAND.
Old Scotland 's the land where the bright summer even ■■ : ■■;, - : ■"/: " :': ■• •Ts cradled in sunshine and hush'd by the gale— . Where huge mountains heave their broad shoulders .to. heaven',:And white foaming torrents dash down through the vale. Though dark be her glens, and her steep mountains sterile, '■ ' >' And roughly the Ocean her bleak headlands lave ; Her children would life's dearest blessings imperil For Scotland, the land of the free, and the brave! The pages of story^ emblazoned in glory, The deeds of the fathers of that honor'd land, Of Bruce, and her Wallace, and those.heroes hoary Who round the great Cov'nant of Truth took their stand. And O, may the spirit that glow'd in their bosoms I Still burn in their children's, in'brightness the same; ■ Then long as the' heath on her wild muirland ■ blossoms, i No deed of a tyrant can tarnish her name. May these, our lov'd sires, who for liberty perish'd, i Be held in remembrance; in'honor and love ; The laws and religion, they gave us be cherished, Their deeds, as a beacon to guide us, still prove. - Their blood was the price of the freedom they gave And ours shall defend it, else crimson the lea; No tyrant, how potent, shall ever enslave us, .
