A LATE COURT CASE.
To the Editor of The Colonist. ; giß ) —ln reference to the case of assault brought under the notice of the Resident Magistrate <Sn Thursday afternoon—and reported in your paper of the following day—it is scarcely probable that the fine inflicted is likely to have a very salutary effect in preventing similar exhibitions of ruffianism in the future. It may also suggest to persons whoso tendencies are in favor of " knock down" arguments (probably owing to their utter inability to produce any intellectual ones), that this may be a cheap and effective method of securing .success in any future election.' It of course depends on the respectable people of all classes how far this kind of thing is to allowed to ride rough shod over decency and order in Nelson. 1 am, Sir, Tours, &c, Nelson, Dec. ,28,1868 ..
