FALL OF RICHMOND AFTER TERRIFIC
FIGHTING.
HOPELESS CONDITION OF THE
CONFEDERATES.
Although the Tararua, which arrived at Nelson last night, brought no English news, telegrams not having been received at Sydney when she left at noon on the 15th, she brings very important intelligence received from San Francisco by a sailing vessel— nothing less than the fall of Richmond, the last great stronghold of the Confederates, who were forced to evacuate the city after great loss and suffering, and three or four days' fearful fighting.
