CRICKET. The match between the Wakatu and Wakefield clubs, which should have come off on Thursday last, was, in consequence of the wet on the preceding day, postponed until the following day. The timo for pitching the wickets had been fixed for ten o'clock; delay, however, occurred in this; the hour appointed was far exceeded, and throughout the day loss of time occuired in several ways; so that a very undesirable conclusion was come to with the match which otherwise might have been determined beyond all question or dispute. The score handed to us does not exactly tally with that of a correspondent (which we insert), as there appears to be a difference of one run more in the second innings of the Wakatu Club than is there stated ; tlie communication, however, shows how the match was ultimately disposed of, so that we need not refer to it here.

Mr. Hunt did much to provide for the comfort of the company, and prepared liberally for the dinner at the Forest Inn after tlie day's play. Hut we must regret that many neglected to recognise these creditable efforts, and departed without doing that justice to the social pleasures of the board which it truly merited on this occasion, and which usually follows these rival efforts in the field. Any little asperity that arose out of these unusual occurrences, therefore, foil unfairly upon those who, having a better knowledge of what is

required to foster a taste for cricket in this province, remained to represent the recusants: this however, was only for a time, and a pl easa nt evening followed.

'Delays are dangerous' is a true though trite expression, and with the days rapidly shortening we advise an early attendance on the ground for the remaining matches this.season, and at the same time suggest a more united recognition ofthose duties of good fellowship for which cricket is generally conspicuous.
