SIR, —We, the undersigned householders of the Province of Nelson, having regard to the present state of Europe, and aware by kuowledge of past events, that a neutral power may at any moment become plunged in war's sanguinary arcana, most repectfully beg to memorialise your Honor that, Your Honor will be pleased, as speedily as convenient, to call a public meeting of the inhabitants of Nelson, in order that some steps maybe taken for the formation of an armed corps of Volunteers, to whom we may all look for protection should war spread its wide desolation to our little Island home which, though so far removed from the territory of the Belligerents, may yet offer a sufficient temptation to any marauding vessel in the event of England being drawn into war's horrid vortex. The Joseph Fletcher (as we reported in our "Extra" of Thursday morning) arrived in harbour about 2 "a.m. that day. She was signalled throughout the greater part of the previous afternoon, and was generally supposed to be tho British Queen, which sailed from Plymouth on the llth April, and has nofc yet arrived, although 130 days out. Tlie supposition was further strengthened that the approaching ship was a stranger to the port, in consequence of her firing guns and throwing up rockets, which were presumed to be demands for the service 3f a pilot. Tlie passage of the Joseph Fletcher has been—as tlie passages of^that favorite and regular trader all along.have been—a remarkably pleasant me, accomplished in the fair average passage of 101 lays.
