MANGAORONGO WILLOWS

CLEARING OF STREAM MEETING TO BE CALLED A decision to call a meeting of the settlers concerned in the Mangaorongq drainage area to discuss the implications of the latest reply from the Soil Conservation Council, and also to discuss the question of maintenance of the sections of stream handed over to Coouncil control, was made by the Otorohanga County Council on Monday. The Soil Conservation Council intimated that except for spraying to kill regrowth from the railway bridge to the “7-mile 44 chain,” no further work was contemplated. However, if the Council wished to make further representations, it should submit proposals accompanied by estimates and details of the area of land to be benefited. The Council had allocated £250 in its own estimates for maintenance of its sector, but the £250 subsidy from the Soil Conservation Council applied for had been turned down. The incidence of maintenance cost, and the letter received, were discussed very fully in committee.
