WOMEN’S DIVISION

MEETING OF WHAREPAPA BRANCH COMPETITION RESULTS The Wharepapa branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers held its monthly meeting in the local hall on Bth September. Mrs S. Harding welcomed members, and the meeting opened with the Creed. The only correspondence received was an invitation to the birthday of Ohaupo branch. It was decided to hold two competitions in October—.the prettiest apron and any article made from a sugar bag. The results of this months’ competions were as follows: Knitting: Mrs Rae 1, Mrs S. Harding 2, Mrs Barnsdale. Flowers; Single flower: Mrs D. Harding and Mrs T. Fletcher, equal 1. Shrub: Mrs Gyde 1. Stem of bloom; Mrs D. Harding 1. An interesting competition was held and the meeting concluded with afternoon tea. The hostesses were Mesdames Rae and Barnsdale. TE RORE BRANCH GOOD ATTENDANCE AT AUGUST MEETING The president, Mrs Godfrey, presided over a good attendance of mem-’ bers for the August meeting of Te Rore branch of the Women’s Division. Mrs Hunt was welcomed as a new member. A letter was read from Mrs Houston, who represented the Provincial at a meeting convened by the local members of the Hospital Board, in regard to providing a home for aged people in Te Awamutu. She was desirous of ascertaining if there was anyone in the district to whom this applied. After discussion it became clear that there was not. The president read a comprehensive report of the last quarterly meeting of Provincial. The roll-call, “ Humorous Incident,” provided some amusing episodes. Mrs Anderson then gave a most interesting talk of her life in India, and illustrated her remarks with exhibits and photographs. The branch warmly expressed appreciation. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Hare and Miss Hight. Winners of competitions: Flowers: Mrs A. Bell 1, Mrs Lambeth 2. Fruit: Mrs Krippner 1 and 2. Vegetables: Mrs A. Bell 1, Mrs Lambeth 2. Shrubs; Mrs Krippner 1 and 2. The winner of the monthly competition was Mrs Edwards. KORAKONUIBRANCH The monthly meeting of the Korakonui branch of the Women’s Division was held in the Hall on Friday September Sth. There was a good attendance. Our president, Mrs Tuck, opened the meeting with the Creed followed by the Prayer. The highlights of the afternoon were three items by the newly-formed choir, ably conducted by Mrs Coleman, Miss Coleman accompanying on the piano. Competitions held during the afternoon were judged by Mrs Kerr and Mrs L. Kay. Results were:—Flowers Mrs Kay 1, Sicily 2, Miss McDonald 3; vegetable: Miss .McDonald 1, Mrs .Orr 2, Mrs Cooper 3; felt article: Mrs Jackson 1, Mrs Dearlove and Mrs McGuinness equal 2, Mrs Coleman 4. Members having birthdays during the month were Mrs Paskins and Mrs L. Kay, both receiving floral sprays. The W,D. Song then brought the meeting to a close. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs McDonald, Mrs Fleming, Mrs Jamieson and Mrs Jackson.
