HOSE RESTRICTIONS

LAW FLAGRANTLY BROKEN It was reported to a Courier representative that despite the restrictions previously impdsqd on the use of garden hoses, some irresponsible and selfish residents of the town were observed unconcerned Catering their vegetable and flower beds. Where they derive the hide from to openly and flagrantly disregard the restrictions, nobody knows. It is not known yet whether any prosecutions are to be made, but if they have, not, then it is time that they were, particularly now that it is known that there is likely to be a serious shortage of water for domestic consumption if rain does not fall within the next ten days. Due notification was published that hoses were to be used only between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and any person who disregarded that notice was warned that he would be prosecuted without any other warning than was given in the notice. Those who have openly flaunted such a reasonable warning warrant prosecution. It must be heartbreaking for those people who are law abiding and orderly, and who comply with reasonable requests such as that above, to observe their neighbours calmly breaking a law which was imposed for their own benefit as well as others. Now that the use of hoses is totally prohibited as an emergency restriction to conserve the dwindling reserves of water, any person caught disregarding the restrictions should be awarded the severest penalties permitted.
