LARGE SUMS GRANTED

REHABILITATION LOANS Rehabilitation loans worth £68,866,749 had been authorised for 85,475 ex-servicemen and women by end of October. In October itself, 1273 loans were authorised valued at £1,074.332. Loans have been for farms, businesses, houses, furniture, tools of trade and other miscellaneous purposes. Loans to purchase farms were increased to 6264, which involved finance worth £26,510,774. This includes 898 ex-servicemen settled on Crown lands. There were 72 farm loans authorised during the month. The end of October saw housing loans brought to a total of 28,189 worth £33,294,199. There were 375 for October, valued at £456,914. There have been 11,974 building loans authorised worth £17,181,625 and 16.215 purchase loans worth £16,112,574. The 156 building loans for October were valued at £226,473, and the 219 purchase loans for the same period entailed £230,441. Included in the total figures to date are 15,441 supplementary loans involving £2,327,833. These supplementary loans are intended to bridge the gap between pre-war prices and present-day costs. Including 11,366 who have been allocated State rental houses and the 6264 Who have been placed on farms of their own, the number of ex-ser-vicemen and women who have been given direct housing assistance through rehabilitation was, at the end of October, 45,819. Other loan assistance to date is: Loans to purchase or establish businesses, to date 8169 (£5,141,458), for October 126 (£88,999); free of interest loans to purchase furniture, to date 41,070 (£3,787,950), for October 680 (£62,427); free-of-interest loans to buv tools of trade, to date 1364 (£44,938), for Oct ber 8 (£242); loans for miscellaneous purposes, ito date 419 £(87,430) for October 12 )£1313).
