FORMATION OF BLOOD BANK
Sir,—On 12th December a meeting was held in Te Awamutu at which were present delegates of the Red Cross, Women’s Institute, Women’s Division (Federated Farmers), Junior and Senior Chambers of Commerce, Rotary Club and the Te Awamutu Sub-Province of Federated Farmers (Waikato Province). Invitations were also extended to the Young Farmers’ Club, St John Ambulance and Federated Farmers (Auckland Province) Incorporated, but by an oversight the Returned Servicemen’s Association did not receive an invitation, for which the writer apologises. The object of the meeting was the formation of a blood bank in the T.e Awamutu area combining both town and country in a social service that I am sure will commend itself to all thoughtful members of the community. Dr Fitchett, pathologist at the Waikato Hospital, addressed the meeting, stressing the urgent need for more donors and explaining what an easy, short and painless operation waS entailed. The delegates to this meeting decided to proceed with the formation of a blood bank in Te Awamutu. The Waikato Hospital will send a team from time to time to Te Awamutu to collect blood plasma so that the convenience of all blood donors will be met. Therefore we are asking all intending donors to enrol as soon as possible with their respective organisations, or should they not belong to one, with the St John’s Ambulance. As acting chairman of Federated Farmers Te Awamutu Sub-Province, I would particularly appeal to the farming community to enrol through their branches and help to make this effort a great success.—l am, etc., JOHN BAYLEY, Organising Chairman.
