London Traffic Problems
Londoners travel 50 per cent, more than they did in 1939, because of the housing shortage, Lord Latham, the London Transport executive chairman said in a report. Every Londoner averaged 1339 miles in 479 rides a year, and traffic within 25 Tniles of Piccadilly Circus carried 12,000,000 people a day. Increase in travel was attributed to the fact that people live further from their work, to a change in their social habits, to the growth of sport, and to the rise in spending power.
