OBITUARY

MR FRANCIS JOSEPH QUIN PASSING OF HIGHLY RESPECTED RESIDENT The 'death of Mr Francis Joseph Quin, which occurred at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital last Friday, removes a highly respected resident of long standing in this district. Mr Quin was born at Eltham Taranaki, in 1901, and came with his parents, Mr and Mrs Francis Quin, of “Isla Bank,” Pirongia Road, in 1903. He received his education at the Te Awamutu public school and at Sacred Heart College, Auckland. After leaving college, he engaged in dairying. Mr Quin was probably best known for the very keen interest he took in all forms of sport, especially in racing and Rugby football. He was a member of the Auckland Racing Club, the Waikato Racing Club and the Waipa Racing Club. He represented Waipa in Rugby ’and after giving up the game he rendered outstanding service to the game as a coach. Mr Quin was deservedly held in the highest esteem by all who had the pleasure of his friendship, and he had many, for he possessed the art of making friends in a very high degree. His all too early death followed after a long, serious illness borne with Christian fortitude. The greatest sympathy has been extended to his parents and other members of the family, Messrs Patrick, Brian and Dr Basil (brothers), and Mrs H. K. Smith JTimaru) and Mrs Owen James (Remuera). The Funeral

The funeral was largely attended and Requiem Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father Colgan, assisted by the Rev. Father McGrath. A lengthy cortege followed the casket to the Te Awamutu Cemetery where the Revs. Fathers Colgan and McGrath again officiated. A profusion of beautiful floral tributes were further evidence of the regard in which Mr Quin was held, and were tokens of sympathy felt for the bereaved. The pall-bearers were Dr Basil Quin, Messrs Patrick and Brian Quin (brothers), and Mr Jack McGovern (cousin).
