VISIT TO SERVICEMEN’S PORTION GENERAL APPEARANCE PLEASING The town clerk (Mr J. W. Palmer), reported to tjie Domain Board on Monday night oft a visit paid by the officer in charge, war graves division, Department of Internal Affairs. Mr Palmer stated: “In company with the secretary of the Te Awamutu branch of the R.SIA. (Mr G. E. Clark), 1 met Mr G. H. Wier. officer in charge, war graves division and Mr Harrison, Dominion secretary of the R-S.A. at the cemetery on Sunday. The visitors were very pleased with the general appearance of the servicemen’s cemetery. They asked that the sealing of the roadway for which a Government grant of £l4 had been authorised, be expedited. “It was also suggested that plot pegs be sunk flush with the ground to facilitate mowing. It was noted that plots in which burials had taken place had with one exception not been satisfactorily re-turfed and it was suggested that they might be re-sown with grass. I also arranged with Mr Wier, to have temporary placques placed on the graves.” The report was received and Mr Williams on behalf of the Beautifying Society undertook to attend to the matters, requiring attention. One member said he hoped that the visitors did not visit the other portion of the cemetery, which he said was in anything but a satisfactory state.
