SUCCESSFUL YEAR

ST. JOHN’S INDOOR BOWLING CLUB SATISFACTORY POSITION RECORDED From the chair, the Rev. J. D. Hogg said that he took great pleasure in reporting another successful year’s activities on the part of the St., John’s Indoor Bowling Club, at the annual meeting in the Parish Hall last night. From a financial point of view, the club was in the veiy preferable position of being free from debt, and having at the completion of its second year some £175 worth of equipment. All loans had been repaid and the club’s finances had been considerably assisted by the generous action of Mrs Sherley in conducting a dance, the proceeds of which had been paid into the club’s account. The past year had been a very full one with the usual club nights, and the matches in the Melville Cup Trophy competition. There is now a very strong and active Ladies’ Bowling Club which was considerably assisted by the formation of a sub-committee e,arly in the year. During the year a visit had been made by St. Andrew’s Club, of Cambridge, and the visit had been returned. As St. John’s was a church club, it was felt that it should cultivate its contacts with church clubs in other centres, and with this object in view, a cup of inlaid New Zealand woods was being made for competitions between the club and St Andrew’s. Election of Officers The officers elected for the coming year were as follows:—The Re.v. J. D. Hogg, unanimously returned as chairman; Messrs W. Brownlee and G. Broad as vice-presidents; and Mr E. W. Williams as secretary. The executive members of the. committee are: Messrs T. Finch, H. Wing, R. DymoreBrown, F. Cately and M. Prince. A match committee was also inaugurated, with Messrs T. Finch, G— Broad and W. Brownlee. Delegates to the association conference to be held on a date yet to be fixed were also elected. They are the secretary (Mr E. W. Williams) and club member (Mr H. Waite). The meeting resolved that both the men’s and ladies’ club subscriptions fpr the current year would remain the same, and that the one shilling per club night for the men’s club should also remain. Matters brought forward during the discussion, and recommended to the delegates for clarification at the association conference, included a suggestion of zones to facilitate the handling of tournaments in the Melville Cup. Recommended to the delegates also was a motion that graded teams be inauguiated to enable all members to enter tournaments in their own class. Opening night was set for a date early in March.
