Inter-Electorate Debate.

What should be an interesting debate i§ set down to take place in the Oddfellow’s Hall on Tuesday night next, when the Waikato and Piako Junior National Party teams will debate the question: “Should the same rate of wages be paid to men and women alike”? It will be an interelectorate debate for the Walsh Cup, and as the speakers are said to be proficient in the art of public speaking an interesting evening should eventuate. The debate is being held under the auspices of the Junior Section of the National Party.

Danger to Children Mr N. Irving stated at last night’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce that the deadly poisonous plant, hemlock, had made its appearance near a children’s playing ground reserve on Goodfellow Street, and also near the plaster works in the same street. It was thought that persons residing in areas of infestation should, in their own interests, cooperate in removing the weed. Mr E. Freed, a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, said that he thought Jaycees might be able to go along on Saturday afternoons to assist in eradicating hemlock, if cases were brought to their attention. A member suggested that the borough council be asked if their foreman could inspect areas in the borough for hemlock and take steps to have it removed.
