STAFF PICNIC
WAIKERIA BORSTAL INSTITUTE DIRECTED BY SOCIAL COMMITTEE Under the direction of the Waikeria Social Committee a staff picnic was held on the site of the Staff Swimming pool on Saturday last. The clerk of the weather was kind and some 40 adults and 35 children spent a most enjoyable day swimming, playing cricket and participating in a wellorganised sports programme. The music supplied by a public address system created a pleasingatmosphere throughout the day. Results were as follows: Tiny Tots: Rosalie Walker 1, Norman Bloxham 2. All entrants received a prize. Novelty Potato Race: Don Buckley 1, Robyn Old 2, Neil Carlaw 3, Murray McMillan 4. Girls Race: Patsy Rooney 1, Bernice Miller 2. Boys Race: Tony Buckley 1, Neil Carlaw 2. Ladies Race: Patsy Rooney 1, Mrs Old 2. Mens Race: Mr Pond 1, Mr B. Cleary 2. Potato and Spoon Race: Mrs Sid Barrett 1, Tony Buckley 2. Mixed Three-legged Race: Mrs Walker and Tony Buckley 1, Mrs Sid Barrett and Mr Carlaw 2. Diving Competition: Tony Buckley I, Alistair McKenzie 2, Don Buckley and Tom Vincent equal 3. Prizes purchased by the committee were presented by the Superintendent, Mr P. McMillan.
