SERIOUS OFFENCE
HAIRINI FARMER CHARGED JURY’S VERDICT IN HAMILTON SUPREME COURT , Mr Justice Hutchison and a jury of twelve were occupied in the Hamilton Supreme Court on Monday with h?aring a charge of an indecent offence committed by Alfred Francis Blake, a fifty-one-year-old farmer of Hairini, on a fourteen-year-old schoolboy of Auckland who at the time that the alleged offence was committed was boarding at Blake’s farm. Mr J. F. Strang appeared for the Crown, and Mr S. S. Preston appeared for the accused. The Crown’s principal witness alleged that the offence was committed when the occupants of the house were temporarily absent. He further alleged that accused had acted in a similar manner some twelve months previously, but he had not told anyone at that time. Medical evidence was given as to an examination made at the request and with the written consent of the Doy’s father. The jury after a retirement of 30 minutes, brought in a verdict of guilty, and Blake was remanded for sentence.
