WORDS OF APPRECIATION

Sir,—May I, as a citizen of Te Awamutu say in a few words how grateful we are to all those folk who went to such a lot of trouble this last Christmas. First of all the decorating of the streets with flags of all kinds, this indeed did create a bright atmosphere and made one feel, well it is really Christmas and the spirit of Christmas was in everyone’s heart, it made one feel that old Te Awamutu was at last on the map. Christmas Eve this year was very bright and instead of folk going elsewhere like they have other years, they spent their time in town with all the children waiting for Santa Claus and his fairies to arrive with all the sweets. This was a great effort and all those who were responsible for this happy event are to be congratulated on their very fine effort, and to see all those children with their little eyes popping out as old Santa arrived, made one feel very happy inside. Last but not least, just a word of praise to our local band who came out among the crowd and rendered all that delightful Christmas music, it made one’s mind go right back many years. At the last race meeting the band was in attendance and gave some very bright items in between the races, and in my opinion this music was of a very high standard and as our band is participating in the con test at Auckland this mopth, may we wish them all the luck, and nope that they will bring back to Te Awamutu some of the honours.—l am, etc., ONWARD TE AWAMUTW.
