FATHER CHRISTMAS
HIS VISIT ACCLAIMED RESIDENTS THANKED It was reported to the last meeting of the Kawhia Chamber of Commerce by Mi' J. Mercep, the organiser, that cash donations and gifts in kind in connection with the. recent visit of Father Christmas to Kawhia had covered all expenses, leaving a credit balance of about £1 17s in hand. Stressing the grave need that existed in Britain, Mr Mercep moved that the sum be donated to the Kawhia branch of the Women’s Division to aid their Parcels for Britain Fund. Mr W- J. Hitchock seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr T. A. Graham characterised the effort as an unqualified success. It was reported that one woman, a visitor, offered to pay for the presents given her children, and was agreeably surprised when told that they were free, 'causing her to express her thanks for such generosity and admiration for the spirit which prompted such a gesture. On the motion of Mr Reeve, seconded by Mr Graham, a resolution was passed by acclamation thanking Mr and Mrs Mercep and family, Mr and Mrs A. Wl. Leek, and Mr and Mrs I. J. Davies for their services in connection with the visit of Father Christmas, who will be invited to call again next Christmas.
