Millar) will be in Napier attending the Municipal Association Conference on the date of the next meeting the borough council decided on Tuesday night to hold their next meeting on the 21st of this month, and the following meeting on the 14th March, thus allowing the meetings to be held fortnightly as usual after the latter date.

New Road Markings A lengthy circular letter, illustrated with many diagrams was before this week’s meeting of the borough council. It came from the Commissioner of Transport, and its contents comprised proposals for road markings as outlined in an article in Wednesday’s Courier. On the motion of Crs Quick and Shepherd the letter was referred to the Traffic Inspector (Mr M. P. Norris) and the local representatives of the Auckland Automobile Association for reports. Carriers’ Association Praised At the close of yesterday’s sitting of the No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority, Mr E. J. Phelan asked Mr J. E. Acclimatisation Affairs

All interested in the sports of shooting and fishing are reminded of the meeting of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society’ Council which will be held in the Oddfellows Hall to-mor-row night. The Council, as a result of representations of the various branches, including Te Awamutu, the parent body decided that Council meetings would be held’ in various country towns and to-morrow night’s meeting is a result of that arrangement. License-holders will have the opportunity of gaining first-hand knowledge of the activities of the Association and they should not lose the opportunity thus presented.

Cambridge Road Water Supply After a lapse of many months, the very vexed question of the Cambridge Road water supply was again referred to at this week’s meeting of the borough council, when a complaint from a resident whose late father put in a pipeline in that area, was before the council. A complicated position was revealed and it was decided to ask the writer, of the letter to call a conference of all those who are using the same pipeline. One councillor suggested that one solution would be to adopt the same method as applied at Pirongia, where one person was responsible for payment of all water consumed, and he collects from the others who use the supply.

Swimming Baths Complaints that people were being allowed to use the swimming baths who did not pay was a statement made by the Mayor (Mr G. Spinley), at Tuesday night’s meeting of the borough council. Mr Spinley said he had interviewed the secretary of the club relative to the complaints, but owing to several swimming carnivals being prepared for the club’s committee had not had time to discuss the matter, and the latter had asked the borough council to defer further consideration of the matter. It had been suggested by the club, that a fiat charge for the use of the baths should be made. The town clerk (Mr Millar) said no reply had been received from the swimming club. Recently the council had received an account from the power board for electric light, and as the council had not used th.? baths at night the account was enquired into. As a result it was ascertained that the account was for the electric light supplied for the whole of the year, and that being so, it was regarded as satisfactory. •
