TEACHERS’ TRANSFERS
STATE TO PAY REMOVAL COSTS One liability on schoolteachers has been removed by a Government decision to pay, under certain conditions, the costs of transfer from one place to another. This is an extension of the general regulations covering the movement in the ordinary course of promotion of officers in the Public Service. Some teachers on transfer have already had this privilege, but the new provision extends the payment of removal expenses to any teacher moving on promotion from a position in which he has completed three years’ service. The maximum for removal of furniture is £6O, and this will operate from October 1 next.
The provision, said the Minister of Education, Mr McCombs, was a further step in the Government’s policy of doing everything possible to assist teachers, and it would undoubtedly have beneficial effects on the children in the schools.
