DANGEROUS FOOTPATHS

A RATEPAYER COMPLAINS Sir, —I read in the Auckland Herald last Saturday that four people had made claims against Auckland City Council for injury or damage caused through faulty footpath and road surfaces. I would like the members of Te Awamutu Borough Council to take a look at the condition of some of the local footpaths and roads: they are a disgrace to the town. In Mutu Street there are holes even in the concrete surfacing, and from the end of the footpath to Mahoe Street corner a disgraceful condition has existed for years. Mahoe Street, too, up to Market Street is full of pot-holes. I wonder if any unfortunate nedestrian broke a leg or otherwise, injured himself through stepping into one of the holes would our Council put the blame on to some body other than itself, as the Auckland City Council has done ? It is a wonder that motor vehicles have not suffered broken springs or axles through the dip in the road at Mahoe Street corner. In wet weather it is impossible for pedestrians to cross the road dry-shod. It is a great pity that one or more of our City Fathers do not live in the vicinity of Mahoe and M.utu Streets, a thicklypopulated area, as then we might get suitably-surfaced footpaths and roads. —4l am, etc., RATEPAYER.
