TRUCK POSITION
OTOROHANGA’S NEEDS COMMITTEE SET UP TO ■INVESTIGATE The truck position of the Otorohanga County Council is anything but satisfactory as a graph prepared by the engineer (Mr B. McKenzie), and exhibited to members at Monday’s meeting of the Council showed. The graph, which was in colours indicated the decreasing earpings and increased costs of the maintenance or the Council’s trucks, and it was an excellent example of the art of visual aid. The question was discussed at some length and whether American or British trucks should be purchased was debated.
Councillors were of the opinion that preference to British trucks should be given and the difficulty of getting spare parts for American trucks and the dollar position entered into the discussion, as well as the merits of certain makes of trucks. After discussion, a committee consisting of the chairman (Mr J. L. Wallis) and Crs Rothery and Walters, was set up to go into the position.
The engineer in his report stated: — “Two of the old Ford trucks have broken down and will require major repairs. It may be necessary later to hire trucks if they are Available. There is no information as to when the trucks on order will be available, but it is not likely to be before the end of the year.
