ANNUAL REUNION
TE AWAMUTU UNITED RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB SUCCESSFUL WIND-UP OF SEASON The Te Awamutu United Rugby Football Club brought its 1948 season to a successful conclusion on Saturday evening when it staged the annual re-union and smoke concert in the Oddfellow’s Hall. Upwards of 100 players and supporters and representatives of other Rugby clubs in the district filled the hall and a most enjoyable evening was had by all. ■ The tables were tastefully decorated in the colours of the club—green and white—and the catering was of the usual high standard. Mr A. G. Freeman, president of the club, was in the chair, and associated with him at the main table were Mr R. S. Sinclair (president, Te Awamutu Union), Mr G. D. Shepherd (secretary of the club), Mr I. Deed (St John Ambulance Association), Messrs C. McDonald and A. Cavanagh (Old Boys’ Football Club), and Messrs W. P. Tombs and K. Tippett. The following toast list was honoured:— “The King”; “Absent Friends”, Mr S. Smith; “Te Awamutu Rugby Football Club”, Mr C. McDonald, response Mr A. G. Freeman; “Other Clubs”, Mr G. D. Shepherd, Mr K. Anderson; “Te Awamutu Rugby Union”, Mr W. P. Tombs, Mr R. S. Sinclair; “Te Awamutu Rugby Referees’ Association”, Mr K. Tippett, Mr G. M. Mackay. The assisting artists provided a most entertaining gt’oup and their efforts were of a high standard. Those who contributed to the evening’s programme were Messrs N. Paul (songs with guitar accompaniment), C. Davidson, T. Carter, Ray Irwin (songs), C. Rusden (sleight of hand), R. Foster (humour) and the Paul Brothers (vocal duets). Mr Jack Dalton presided at the piano throughout the evening.
The proceedings concluded at midnight with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne”.
