The electrical engineer, Mr E. Bryant, advised the Te Awamutu Power Board in his report presented at Tuesday’s meeting that at the r equest of the Electrical Department, Hamilton City Council, eight linesmen were sent from Te Awamutu on Sunday, August 29th, to assist in repairing lines damaged during the tornado. The linesmen volunteered for the task. Farmers Co-operative Tree cutting work at Kaipaki had been continued as opportunity permitted, reported the engineer, Mr E. Bryant, to Tuesday’s meeting of the Te. Awamutu Electric Power Board. The majority of farmers so far approached had realised the seriousness of the electrical hazard resulting from trees growing too close to power lines and were arranging to have, them removed, he stated. Rail and Road Services “We carted from Auckland last season well over 900 tons of fertiliser for the district,” said a carrier in Raglan County in evidence to the No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority in Hamilton on Monday. He added that cartage was by road lorries because of the railway restrictions. “When in the coming season the railway brings fertiliser to the Glen Afton Railway Station we lorry operators will be able to convey the fertiliser to the farms in two hours instead of the nine-hour job last year,” he said. Spaniel’s Litter of 13 An unusually large litter of pups was produced by a three-year-old English springer spaniel, owned by Miss E. D. Baker, Hamilton, last Saturday. The spaniel, Selassie of Erendley, produced a litter of ten pups last year, and on Saturday a new litter arrived totalling 13. Like their predecessors, all were healthy and normal in every way.
