HOME WANTED

NEEDS OF BOY SCOUTS COUNCIL ASKED TO ASSIST A letter from the Te Awamutu Boy Scouts Committee to the effect that it had been found not practicable to utilise the upper storey of the Basketball Association’s new pavilion, was read to members of the Borough Council on Monday night. The letter asked if it would be possible for the council to offer the committee the use of a small section whereon to erect a permanent home for the Boy Scouts. Cr Quick said that the idea of utilising portion of the basketball pavilion would not be entirely satisfactory. The Boy Scouts had a lot of gear and they required a place that they could use as often as they desired; in fact, they desired to own their own place. If the council could make a section available as central as possible (because of the fact that some of the Scouts were small boys), the committee and movement would appreciate any assistance that could be given in that direction. The building proposed to be erected was 30 by 40 feet, so that only a small section would be required. Cr Babbage suggested a small portion of the Cemetery Reserve being used, but it appeared to be a matter that required some consideration being given to it. He, therefore, suggested that further consideration be deferred. The Mayor said that if the proposed building was to be used only two or three times a week they could not be expected to tie up too valuable a section. The council must see to it that, as great a use as possible was made of any section made available. The discussion, then lapsed and consideration was deferred.
