THE ROYAL VISIT

SHOULD TE AWAMUTU CO-OP-ERATE WITH CAMBRIDGE? BOROUGH COUNCIL DISCUSSION The Borough Council on Monday night decided to authorise the Mayor to approach the headmasters of the Te Awamutu schools to see if they would be prepared to allow the children to visit Cambridge on the occasion of the Royal visit to that town next year. The Clerk (Mr T. H. Millar) said that Mr Heenan, the under-secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs, who had recently visited London in connection with the plans for the visit had given “an off the record address to members of local bodies assembled in Wellington and at which the Mayor and himself were present. Mr Spinley said that Mr Heenan proposed to be in Cambridge on the 29th of this month to discuss details of the visit to that and he (the Mayor) wondered if it would not be better for Te Awamutu to throw in their lot with Cambridge in regards the visit. Cr Williams said that if they cooperated with Cambridge it might be possible to get a space allocated to the Te Awamutu children so as to enable them to get a good view of the Royal visitors. The Mayor offered to consult with the headmasters of the local schools and on the motion of Crs Williams and Chunn the offer was accepted.
