Assistant Tuberculosis Officer should be called for an assistant tuberculosis officer at the Waikato Hospital was decided at a meeting of the Waikato Hospital ‘Board on Monday. Beautifying Society The Borough Council on Monday night decided to make a grant of £75 (a yearly allocation) towards the work of the Beautifying Society. Borough Section Leased The last of the Roche Street borough lease sections was disposed of at Monday night’s meeting of the Borough Council when the offer of a local resident to lease it at £6 10s a year (the same figure that applied to the other sections) was accepted.

According to figures tabled by the secretary-manager, Mr M. Barnett, at Tuesday’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Electric Power Board, a total of £5723 13s 9d was earned in revenue by the board from the sale of current for July of this year. Lighting, heating and cooking provided £4023 10s 7d, power £1672 15s Bd, and street lighting £2O. Sundries amounted to £7 7s 6d. The figure for July, 1947, was £4864 2s 2d, the increase, for the cur rent year thus being £859 11s 7d.

Interviews With Relatives At Monday’s meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board the Medical Superintendent reported that members of the resident medical staff may be interviewed between 1.30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on all week days, and members of the senior medical staff may be. interviewed by appointment on outpatient days. The reference was to arrangements made for a doctor to be available at the Waikato Hospital to interview relatives wishing to make enquiries regarding patients.

Well Lighted Town “There’s no better lighted town than Te Awamutu anywhere between Auckland and Te Kuiti,” commented Mr M. Barnett, sedretary-manager of the Te Awamutu Electric Power Board, at Monday’s meeting, with reference to a recent remark by a member of the Chamber of Commerce to the effect that “Te Awamutu was a rather dark old town.” The Chamber of Commerce observation arose from a discussion of the possibility of Restoring the use of Neon lighting in Te Awamutu.

Power Board Line Staff “We have never been in such a good position as regards faultmen,” commented Mr M. Barnett, secretarymanager, at Tuesday’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Electric Power Board. The secretary-manager stated that the board now has three qualified faultmen to attend to lines and equipment in the board’s area. A line forman who was with the board for over 20 years had been appointed line supervisor and storeman, the secretarymanager advised the board.

Boon To Power Board As a result of recent exchange adjustments, the Te Awamutu Electric Power Board has benefited in respect of purchases of meters, poles and similar equipment from overseas. This information was imparted to board members at their meeting on Tuesday, the secretary-manager stating that meters were reduced from £312 9s to £2lB ss, and poles were each 15s 3d lower in price as a result of the reduction in the exchange rate. This would result in considerable savings to the board, stated Mr Barnett.

Hospital Electricity Plant The Waikato Hospital Board was advised at its meeting on Monday that dismantling and disposal of existing generating plant at Rotorua Hospital was being discussed with the Mental Hygiene Department, which is expected to take over the apparatus from the board. On the recommendation of the board’s engineer, it was decided to send a new electricity generating set by road instead of by rail consignment. It was stated that though the. former means of transport would be more expensive it would mitigate chances of damage to the plant through transhipping and otherhazards.
