INCREASED TARIFF
SUPPLY OF POWER FROM STATE HYDRO-ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT A £l3OO a year increase in tariff on power supplied to the Te Awamutu Electric Power Board by the State Hydro-Electric Department, is anticipated by the board’s secretary- manager (Mr M. Barnett), as a result of a general increase in tariffs which will come into effect from the end of the current year, according to advice received by the board, at its meeting on Tuesday. ,The costs of new plant and works programmes was the cause of the proposed increase, said the manager j to Mr E. H. Rhodes. In Auckland the higher tariff would cost the board there an additional £BO,OOO a year. The increase would affect other boards as from October next, but for reasons unknown Te Awamutu had received six months’ notice of the impending rise. The matter was being taken up by the Bulk Supply Commission which was the only channel for negotiations with the State Hydro Department on questions of tariff, said the secretary-manager.
