PRICE OF CARTRIDGES
CONCESSION TO FARMERS REPLY TO QUESTION BY MR W. J. BROADFOOT, M.P. Recently, Mr W. J. Broadfoot made enquiries as to the possibility of a reduction in the price of .303 cartridges for use by farmers. The Minister of Defence (Mr Jones) has now advised him that it is the policy of his department to release Australian ammunition at £l5 per 1000 rounds to Federated Farmers (Inc.) for resale to fanners for use in the destruction of pests. The same price was charged to other recognised dealers. “You will be interested to learn that the landed costs of this ammunition was less than that being charged on resale,” wrote the Minis tei. “Ammunition purchased by Army Department from the Colonial Ammunition Co. (C.A.C.) at a lower price than the Australian cartridge is released to the Department of Internal Affairs for purposes of pest destruction, the price being £l4 5s per 1090 rounds. “A study of the position discloses that it is not possible to make a reduction in the above mentioned prices to the wholesalers from whom individual farmers purchase their requirements.”
