WORK IN THE BOROUGH
FOREMAN’S REPORT TO COUNCIL COMMITTEE ACTIONS The Works committee reported to the Borough Council on Monday on the progress of works in hand. The Council was recommended to approve the plan as lodged for. The Council was also recommended to approve of the payment of accounts. Hume Pipe Company, Sloane Street, water pipes and fittings, £263 16s; Robb and Taylor, 12s; Newton King Ltd., 5 tons cement, £33 8s 9d, streets. The report of the committee was adopted. In She course of his' report the foreman (Mr R. H. Close) stated that during the past two weeks the staff had finished laying the water mains in Sloane Street, and put on seven water services there. When they are needed they can be connected up. Also, the staff had cleaned up the trees on the Triangle and topped the trees in Victoria Park; repaired a leak in the main sewer through Ferriman’s property; put in a pipe across the footpath on Wallace Terrace to take the storm water; filled some "Of the pot-holes with bitumen (as the weather permits); shifted the fence at Albert Park; cleaned upi the rubbish in the lower end of Laurie Street; x shifted the sign in Rewi Street! on to the corner of Alexandra Street; filled up holes in the footpath in Teasdale Street with metal. Tests had been made for a sand-pit near the septic tank but there is too much soil on top to make it worth while opening up for a sand-pit. At present th|e staff is engaged putting in crossings in Roche Street, lifting the kerbing and sump-hole. General maintenance work has been seen - to regularly.
