METHODIST SILVER TREE

SUCCESSFUL AND ENJOYABLE EVENING A very enjoyable evening was spent in the Methodist Bryant Hall on Friday evening when the Ladies Guild held their annual silver tree effort. The Hall was packed with an enthusistic audience to watch the visiting magician, ‘ Rev Allon Carr, of Morrinsville, who is a member of the Canterbury magicians’ club. Mr Carr kept the large audience on’tip-toe for-an hour and a half, and completely mystified them with his magic and conjuring tricks. He gave a very finished display and richly merited the hearty applause at the finish. The small boys who were called upon thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the onlookers were entertained by the looks of utter bewilderment on the childrens faces -when they found many articles missing. One very clever piece of work was the changing of cards in an envelope in the pockets of two local young men, and they, as well as the audience, are still wondering how it was done. Mr Carr will be sure of a warm welcome if he visits Te Awamutu again. A pianoforte solo was given by Miss Beverley Hey, while Mr Baxter rendered the solos “To A Miniature” and “Eriskay Love Lilt” excellently. 'The Guild had a stall at the Hall entrance, and the eager buyers soon cleared it. The silver tree was well loaded with its little gay bags containing thanksgiving offerings. Just before sunper they were onened and accented on behalf of the Church, by Mr Bryant, from Mrs Orchard, president of the GuildA good supper brought a very enjoyable evening to a close. The financial result was very satisfactory. Rev H. C. Orchard occupied the chair.
