KAWHIA NOTES

ITEMS FROM THE SEASIDE IN AND ABOUT THE TOWNSHIP The Courier’s Kawhia correspondent writes that a meeting of the Town Board was held on Friday last, when Current business was dealt with. Two members were unavoidably absent. School teachers of the district met at Oparau on Tuesday afternoon to hear the native school inspectors give a talk on native instruction. The information imparted was very much enjoyed and valued. The following lines may be read and digested by residents in their leisure moments:— F Life is a privilege. Like some rare rose » The mysteries of human mind enclose. What marvels lie in earth and air and sea ! What stores of knowledge wait our opening key ! What sunny roads of happiness lead out Beyond the realms of indolence and doubt 1 And what large pleasures smile upon and bless The busy avenues of usefulness ! —c.w.w. And all the farmers are getting ready to do their utmost to produce more during the coming season, so that the position in famine-stricken Europe may be somewhat alleviated; and Kawhia district, with its advantages, will surpass all previous endeavours, weather permitting ! Sun-bathers have not been seen on Kawhia wharf during the last few days, as this usually sunny spot is at present receiving its full share of inclement weather. Obituary It is a sad duty (states the Kawhia correspondent of the Courier) to report the death of Mrs Ethel de Courcey Robertson,' who passed away on Thursday afternoon at the Waikato Hospital, Hamilton. The late Mrs Robertson had resided in the Kawhia district for forty-five years, most of that time being spent on her husband’s farm at Hauturu; but for the last few years she had been resident in Kawhia with her daughter, Mrs M. Cavers. She is survived by her husband, Mr G. M. D. Robertson, and two daughters, Mrs Cavers (Kawhia) and Mrs Cole Baker (Wjaitetuna); there are four grandchildren. Mr Robertson and family have the sympathy of the community in their sad loss. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon, interment being at the Hamilton cemetery.
