MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL ENGINEER’S REPORT The Waipa County Council held their monthly meeting to-day. Those present were: Mr S. C. B. Macky (chairman), Crs F. L. Onion, S. G. Rus'sell, R. J. Church, E. T. Harding, G. S'. Hall, W. S. Germann, C. S. Alexander, M. W. Cunningham. The clerk, Mr T. Grant, and the engineer, Mr W. G. Macky, were also present. The engineer’s report in that part that referred to ridings contiguous to Te Awamutu, read as follows: Kaipaki Riding: The road drain from Goodwin Road junction, along .Parallel Road and for a few: chains up Berquist Road is being cleaned. Ah old 30in diameter pipe culvert on Parallel Road near Garmonsways failed and was replaced with 36in diameter pipes at a lower level to suit drainage requirements. Wings and head walls will be constructed when the water level permits. Trott’s Bridge on Mill Road was found to be in need of repair. The piles were repaired and new caps, stringers and decking provided.

Pukekura Riding: Portions of Te Awamutu-Cambridge Main Highway and Cambridge - Roto-o-rangi Main Road were sanded from. Grey’s and Peppercorn Pits and Kairangi and Hannon Roads were patched. A bridge on Grice Road near Coopers was provided with news caps, three newstringers, and the deck repaired. Cleaning of drains in the Pukekura North Drainage Area has been completed. Rangiaohia Riding: Shoulders were removed from Te Awamutu-Cam-. bridge Main Highway adjacent to Te Awamutu and from the metalled section of Chamberlain Main Road. Puahue Main Road and Te Rahu, Hastie’s, Cooper and Rangiaohia Roads were patched, etc. Apart from some maintenance, work under Muir Road grant has been suspended. The roadway at a wash-out in Ellicott’s Block was widened and the resulting broken stone salvaged. Orakau Riding: Kihikihi-Arapuni Main Highway was heavily patched from P.W.D. quarry dump and Brotherhood’s Road received attention. Slips were removed from Te Reti Road.

Mangapiko Riding: Te AwamutuFirongia and Frankton-Pirongia Main Highway were patched from Pirongia dump. Shoulders were removed from portions of Paterangi-Ohaupo Main Road and Te Rore-Paterangi, Ryan, Mountain and Church Roads. Hawthorn and Anderson’s Roads were resurfaced and Sing, Ryan, Bardsley, Mountain and Burns’ Road patched. Spent gravel was removed from Te Awaniutu-Meadway’s Main Road and used to strengthen Bank, Ngaroto and Sing 'Roads. A lenth of Baffin Street between McClure and Franklin Streets has been formed. The clearing of blackberry in the Pirongia Drainage Area is proceeding. Kakepuku Riding: Te AwamutuBarton’s Main Highway and TokanuiKakepuku Main Road were patched with Puniu gravel from Onion’s dump. The cleaning of drains in the Kakepuku drainage area is progressing. General: Progress in the building of county houses is as follows: Te Rapa: Most of the timber is on hand and the foundations are completed. Work is progressing. Leamington: Most of the timber has arrived and work is in hand.
