WEDDING

MURTAGH—MORRIS A very pretty wedding solemnised at Te Awamutu Methodist Church recently was that of Patricia Merle, daughter of Mrs M. Morris, Ohaupo Road, and Norman Henry Murtagh, second son of Mr and Mrs E. J. Murtagh, Ohaupo Road. Rev. H. C. Orchard was the officiating minister, and the organist was Mr Athol Murtagh. The bride, who was given away by her grandfather, Mr C. Smedley, wore a beautiful gown of white embossed satin cut on princess lines, with a pointed train outlined with ruching. She carried a sheaf of white roses, camellias, paper-whites, and maidenhair fern. Attending as bridesmaids were Miss Valerie Murtagh and Miss Beryl Harding, who were frocked in gowns of eau-de-nil taffeta made on similar lines to that of the bride, with fancy ruched sleeves and full skirts. Sheafs of gold chrysanthemums, roses, antirrhinums and maidenhair fern were carried. Mr Clive Meddings was best man and Mr Owen Murtagh groomsman. The ushers at the church were Messrs Glenwood and M. Murtagh. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Regent Lounge, where the guests were received by the bride’s mother, who wore a pluml-coloured suit with a yoke of clover embroidery and navy accessories. She was assisted by the bridegroom’s mother, who wore a black frock and fur coat with matching accessories. When Mr and Mrs N. H. Murtagh left for their honeymoon the bride wore a suit of dusky pink with black accessories. Their home will be at Te Mawhai. Among the wedding guests was Mrs R. Wilson, of Melbourne, sister of Mrs E. J. Murtagh. EMPSON—THORNES On Saturday last, June 8, at King’s College Memorial Chapel, Otahuhu, the marriage was celebrated of James Stanley Howard, youngest son of Mr and Mrs S. A. Empson, of “Oimara,” Te Awamutu, to Helen Josephine, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Thornes, Duart Avenue, Mt. Albert. The Rev. H. L. R. Isherwood performed the ceremony. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a cream georgette frock fashioned with a round yoke and peplum of old guipure lace finished with rouleau. The long full bishop sleeves had a deep cuff of lace pointed over the • hand. The Brussels net veil was held in place with a spray of tuber roses and orange blossom and she carried a sheaf of cream stocks and chrysanthemums. The bridesmaid, Miss Doreen Spencer, wore petit pouff ninon in a marina shade and the unusual sleeve and yoke effect were outlined with rouleau. She carried a bouquet of cyclamen, stock and roses and wore the same shade of flowers in her hair. The bridegroom was attended by his cousin, Mr John Barton, of Remuera. The ushers were Messrs Howard Empson and D. Hay. A reception was afterwards held at the Carnival Park Tea Kiosk, One Tree Hill, where the guests were received by Mr and Mrs Thornes and Mr and Empson. Mrs Thornes wore a mulberry wool georgette frock with matching coat and hat and carried a nosy of shaded delphiniums. Mrs Empson wore a black suit with heavily braided coat, a wide black hat with cyclamen and blue plumes, and a shoulder spray of cyclamen and carnations. When Mr and Mrs J. S. H. Empson left by car on their honeymoon for a tour of the North Island, the bride wore a mushroom pink frock under a grey coat with matching pink hat and black accessories. Their future home will be in Te Awamutu. OVERSEAS WEDDING MISSEN—BOAST The wedding took place at Dereham Parish Church, of Miss Sheila Mary Boast, daughter of Mr and Mrs E. J. Boast, of Mill House, Toftwood, Dereham, Norfolk, and Sgt- Bateman Kenneth Missen, N.Z.E.F., son of Mr and Mrs B. T. Missen, of Te Awamutu. The Vicar, the Rev. Noel Boston, officiated, and Mr R. C. Norton was the organist. Given away by her father,, the bride was dressed in * white lace over chiffon and carried a bouquet of pink roses with trailing fern. Her bridemaid, Miss Brenda Fuller, was attired in white lace over blue, and carried a bouquet of pink tulips and purple iris. The best man was L/Cpl. P. B. Butler. A reception was held at the King’s Head Hotel.
