VICTORY CHOIR

MEETING OF COMMITTEE At the final meeting of the Victory Choir Committee held recently, the chairman reported that all debts of the Choir had been paid or arranged for and all assets disposed of. The Borough Council had agreed to pay all expenses, and save for the cost of a portable platform which the Council retained, the expense to it has been under £2 10s. This, of course, is due to the generosity of many who had assisted the Choir without charge, especially the churches and the Regent Theatre Company.

The question of the future of the Choir was discussed at some length. It was felt that Te Awamutu has sufficient talent to maintain an excellent district choir but doubts were expressed as to whether there was any real public demand for such an organisation, while the members of the Victory Choir, or nearly all, are also members of one or more existing choirs and would be unlikely to desire further choir singing. It waj thought that in any case little could be done before Christmas and the discussion was adjourned until some time in the New Year when the matter can be reopened.

The Choir from Te Kuiti and Otorohanga which presented an excellent rendering of Handel’s “Messiah” in Te Awamutu last Christmas has asked for the assistance of Te Awamutu singers in another presentation this year. The conductors of organised choirs in Te Awamutu are to consult their choristers as to whether they wish to accept this invitation.
