KING COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS TE AWAMUTU PLAYERS COMPETE The King Country golf championships were concluded at Tarrangower, . on Saturday last when there was the largest field seen in the history of the club. Altogether 27 teams competed and there were over 100 players-on the course. The weather conditions were ideal, but the course was not its best and most players found the bare green very difficult when they dried out in the afternoon. The tourney was run by the Waimarino Club and they made a good job of it. The teams championship was won by Taumarunui A with a score of 611, which was very good indeed, giving the individual members of the team average rounds for the day of just over 76 each. The members of the team were W. Jones, H. K. Spencer, T. Jones and M. Dudley. The runnersup were Taumarunui B with 642. Te Awamutu A took third place with 667. Jones, who scored a faultless 69 in the morning and a 72 in the afternoon. He hardly made a mistake all day through the green but found the putting greens a bit troublesome in the afternoon. His smooth flowing style made the game look easy and he returned the best gross score for the day with a total of 60—72—141. J. Bundle, of Te Awamutu, also played impressive golf to be runner-up to Jones with 76—76—152. Other individual results were as follows : 36-hole junior gross: W. C.
