NEW TROTTING SEASON

AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB’S SEPTEMBER MEETING GUINEAS DAY AT WANGANUI (By “Old Rowley”) Very good acceptances have been received by the Auckland Trotting Club for its meeting at Alexandra Park to-morrow, and everything points to the meeting being a great success. There is a leavening of southern form horses among the fields and with the recent meetings at Addington a line can be gained on their prospects, but it is long since locally trained horses had an outing with the exception of those which ran at the recent matinee meeting that it should occasion no surprise if some are further forward than is generally expected. The first race will commence at 11.45 and the system of betting will be win and place. Introductory Handicap, trotters, limit, 3.40; 1A miles. Most of those on the limit have shown ability, but perhaps the most outstanding are Anna Wrack, Dooly Scott, Pardon Me, and Rosewaa, but Peter Stirling, Song Bird, Surprise Moko, and Vindictive Lady, which comprise the others, have been showing ability. Aerial Scott and Cyone Maid, together with King Parrish, Little Hero and Toushay, are close enough to the limit to make their prospects excellent. Leeleta and Rara Avis are reported to be in good form, while further back Suspense, Audrey’s Last, Firewater and Hidden Note have shown good form, but they might find it hard to work their way through a big field. The public are likely to prefer: Rosewaa. Pardon Me, Toushay. Massey Memorial Handicap, limit 3.33; IB miles. This race has the only small field on the programme, and with seven starters-there should be no excuse for poor running except lack of form. All the limit bunch have shown form with Flashlight and Noble de Oro outstanding. Balalaika and Sonny Jewel should not be troubled by their 12 yards handicap, while Heydey is good enough to make up a discrepancy of 24 yards. Most support may be given to Heydey, Balalaika, Noble de Oro. United Handicap, limit 4.44; 2 miles. There arc eight on the limit mark in this event, and it is likely that Aranui Jack, Desert Lad, Lord Brooklyn and Spyland will have many friends, while on the twelve yards mark Belhall, Heliopolis, Keewah and Te Toanganui will attract attention. Mighty, Larissa and Emulous are competent backmarkers. However final choice may settle upon Belhall, Lork Brooklyn, Emulous.

September Handicap, limit 3.19: IB miles. Kitty’s Choice and Night Beam, from the limit, should be capable of a solid showing, although they will find Alcazar, Bill Scott, and Medical Student hot on their trail from 12 yards. Highland Scott is by no means out of the picture at 24 yards, while Sabu and Volo Senwood are sure to make things interesting, and with a little more form Black Label is capable enough. However, most support will no doubt be given to Medical Student—Volo 'Senwood bracket, Night Beam, Sabu. Royal Oak Handicap, trotters, limit 3.35; IB miles. Aerial Scott, Bridget Mac, Ihi Ihi, Lord Ax worthy, Rosewaa, Touchay and Twice Worthy are likely sorts from the limit. Audrey’s Last, Fighting Friend, Firewater, Hidden Note and Forewarned are outstanding on the marks further back. Form points to favouring Toushay, Fighting Friend, Firewater. Orakei Handicap, limit 3.25; IB miles. Ann Scott, Contender, Emulous, Fulwood, are smart on the limit, Kewpie’s Crown, Modern Parrish, Josie Dell, Dunkirk and Gallant Maid are among the proved performers further back. A favoured trio may be Josie Dell, Emulous, Gallant Maid. Improvers Handicap, limit 3.34; IB Miles. There is a fair amount of talent on the limit with perhaps Bill Ova, Indian Lad, Josalie and Tommy True standing out. Fair Play, Mine Host, Susy Lee and Red Ace have been doing fairly well, while Toronto Lass and True Jewel are capable. In an open race investors may prefer Josalie, Scrounger, Mine Host.

Takanini. limit 2.44; 11 miles. Much the same field as will contest the September Handicap appears here with the addition of War Guard and Double Peter, both of which raced with distinction at the recent Addington meeting. It is likely that although early racing may have some bearing on public opinion the ultimate favourites are likely to be Sabu, Medical Student—Volo Senwood bracket, Double Peter. SECOND DAY AT WANGANUI CRAMOND BAY MAY FIND THINGS HARDER If the fourteen engaged in the Wanganui Guineas face the starter this classic should prove one of the most interesting contests to be staged for some considerable time, for there are several engaged which were very promising two-year-olds last season. Specialist has had an outing and should have benefited considerably by the race, by Broiefort—Cockeye, he is a good galloper. Reversion is by Ringmaster from Imposture, and is, of course, owned by G. Currie. He showed ability in the few starts he had last season and is reported to be a , showy-looking individual. Royal Raider, one of the progeny of Royal Chief from Moonraider, was good enough to win the Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes from a fair field of juveniles, and his one start this season should have benefited him. He Will be bracketed with the Battle Song —Martial Lady colt, Battle Lord, which has yet to show ability. The Foxbridge—Ann Acre colt, AlSirat, showed himself a capable youngster and he has developed into a I classy three-year-old which should be • capable of better things and then there

is Gigli, by Defoe—Haughty Toti, with a two-year-old record which will stand any test and the breeding and frame of a champion in the making. Man’s Pal—Aroarc is the breeding of Silver Pal and he shows himself to be a promising sort. Brown Derby has yet to race, but he is reported to be very promising and great things are expected of him this season. Be-A have is a Phaleron Bay colt from Good Conduct, and he showed plenty of ability as a two-year-old. Tremello is and has not yet raced sufficiently to gain any line on his real ability. Lord Coronach won nicely at Wanganui last week and his career has shown him to be a willing galloper. By Coronach— Helen Gold he might upset a lot of preconceived ideas. The two fillies -engaged are Drambuie and \ andra. The former is a grey by Thieo—Royal Flavour and showed plenty of speed last season, while the latter, a Coronach filly from Kara, has not been i-aced much but managed to notch one win as a two-year-old. However, they hardly seem a bay gelding by Ringmaster—lcing solid enough to compete against the very robust cols engaged. Form and the Favoured The following horses have shown plenty of ability and may be among the favoured in their engagements: Gonville Hack Hurdles, about 1? miles: Nanook, Foxbrae, Norse. Apprentice Jockey’s Hack Handicap, 7B furlongs and 36 yards: Montosorrie, Breezealong, Battle Lord. Trial Hack Handicap* 6 furlongs and 80 yards: Provider, Controller, Chatley. Wanganui Guineas, three-year-olds,. 1 mile: Gigli, Al-Sirat, Royal Raider. Higgie Handicap, 11 miles: Crarnond Bay, Lord Darnley, Dunbar. Moutoa Hack Handicap, 11 miles: Solver, Stoney Broke, Hulabaloo. Owen Handicap, 6 furlongs and 80 yards: Colonel Vaals, Master Ted, Royal Heir. Spring Hack Handicap, 6 furlongs and 80 yards: Broielov, Sir Wina, Dymondy.
