COMMISSION GAINED

YOUNG TE AWAMUTU AIRMAN

A former pupil of the Te Awamutu District High School, who enlisted in the R.NZ.A.F. in 1941, has been promoted to the rank of PilotOfficer. He is Douglas Bergemann, and news of his promotion has just been received by his sister, Miss Mabel Bergemann, now of the National Service Department in Wellington. PilotOfficer Bergemann, who spent his boyhood in Te Awamutu, was a member of the iNew Zealand Night Fighter Squadron, flying Beau Fighters and recently accounted for three trains in France. Leaving New Zealand as a Sergeant he was promoted to Flight-Sergeant last November, and a cable to his sister advises that he has now gained his commission. AIR FORCE PROMOTION Announced in a recent Gazette is the promotion of Pilot-Offiecr lan Sinclair McGechie to the temporary rank of Flying-Officer. Born in Te Awamutu, Flying-Officer McGechie is a son of the late Mr J. A. McGechie and Mrs McGechie, of Pakura St. He completed his education at the Hamilton High School and at the time of, his enlistment was employed in the office of the Te Awamutu Electric Power Board.
