COMING OF AGE

POPULAR GIRL HONOURED KIHIKIHI PARTY On a recent evening over 200 friends gathered at the Kihikihi Town Hall at the invitation of Mr and Mrs Charles Wilson to celebrate the coming of age of their younger daughter Jessie. Mr and Mrs Wilson extended a hearty welcome to all, and were especially pleased to have the company of Mr and Mrs A. Coxhead, of Paeroa, in whose home Jessie was born. The time was spent in dancing, games and competitions; a euchre tournament resulted in a win by Mrs Findlay ?nd Miss O. Wall, and the Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss E. Marquis and partner. S'-ngs were rendered by Mr "P. McInnally, Mr Kura (Ngaarno), Mr J. Thomson and Mrs Brown. Mrs Brown played the accompaniments and dance music. A competition entitled “The Lost City,” a story in surnames, which was composed by Mrs Wilson, helped to entertain non-dancers. Mr John Thomson was master of ceremonies, and in a few well chosen words said he had known Jessie and her parents for a number of years, and found them to be well liked by everyone they met. Mr Wilson said he was pleased to see so many friends, and called on Jessie to accept a huge key, which he hoped would open the way to the best of everything in the future, and wished her the best of all good gifts—good health.

A feature of the supper was the pork, which was beautifully prepared by Mrs Hugh Wallace and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Many beautiful gifts were givqn to Jessie, who asked all present to sign her key. she then cut the cake amidst musical honours. , The National Anthem at midnight brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
