Sergeant Phil Harvey was among the New Zealand airmen serving in the Middle East who broadcast messages home on Sunday last. Sergeant Harvey sent messages to his wife, Mrs Vai. Harvey, Rewi Street, and his parents, Mr and Mrs A. P. Harvey, Frontier Road.

At the Te Awamutu Hotel on Monday afternoon a farewell social was tendered to Lieutenant W. 0. Sinnott, signal officer of the Waipa Battalion of the Home Guard, who is about to enter a military camp, by officers of the headquarter’s company of the battalion and members of the signal platoon. Speakers at the function were Sergeant J. Fisher, who will now take over the duties of signals officer, Captain H. P. Ensor, Lieutenants C. 0. Edmonds and E. Dodd, R.S.M. B. Malone and Corporal S. S. Preston for the n.c.o’s., and members of the signal platoon. All paid a tribute to the untiring efforts which Lieutenant Sinnott had made for the Home Guard, efforts which were reflected in the present high standard of efficiency obtaining among signallers throughout the battalion. He was assured of the cordial good wishes of all in his future army life. After Lieutenant Sinnott had responded, a number of appropriate toasts were honoured.
