AIR TRAINING CORPS

MANY ENROLMENTS MADE Since it was announced on Wednesday that officers of the Air Training Corps would visit Te Awamutu next Tuesday, many more enrolments have been made and the numbers are steadily increasing. Yesterday several lads from the surrounding districts made inquiry and enrolled. The interviewing officers are Mr W. G. S. Smith (High School), Col. J. G. Wynyard and Major J. H. Ansell. The age qualification is between 16 and 18 years and enrolment is for the Air Training Corps only. In other words, on completion of the course or on passing into another age group, the trainee is free to pass into either Army, Navy, or Air Force at his option. Meanwhile in the Corps he is given instruction which will better' fit him for any branch of the service or in later civil life. Generally, two night parades each week are contemplated—one for drill and the other for technical instruction. The Corps divides into two sections—the one for flying crews (pilots, observers, etc.) and technical section (mechanics, riggers, etc.) It has now been arranged that the visiting officers will meet the promoting committee on Tuesday afternoon, thus leaving the evening free for consultation with the trainees and their parents or guardians. For that reason the starting hour on Tuesday evening has been altered to 7.30 p.m. at the Borough Council Chambers (Town Hall). The trainees who are already attending classes at the High School on Tuesday evenings will report as usual to the class next Tuesday and arrangements will be made for them to meet the visiting officers at the close of the public meeting.
