WAIKATO RED CROSS
SUCCESSFUL YEAR REVIEWED ARRANGEMENTS FOR COUPONFREE MATERIAL A highly successful year’s operations were reviewed at the annual meeting in Hamilton on Tuesday of the Waikato Centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society, the president, Mr A. E. Gibbons, presiding over a large gathering of delegates. j The question of acquiring materi | in connection with the society’s activities was discussed at length. It was explained by the president that under a new arrangement it would be possible to purchase material without clothing coupons. To acquire material a certain form would have to be signed by the chairman and secretary of the branch requiring the material and the form forwarded to the centre in Hamilton for approval. DELAY FEARED The necessity for submitting the application form to Hamilton for approval was criticised by certain delegates, who considered that the delay occasioned would in many cases mean an opportunity lost of securing certain material which was on offer at shops only on limited occasions. It was thought advisable by a number of speakers that the difficulty of certain branches in securing wool and other materials might be overcome by the Waikato Centre purchasing in bulk and acting as a supply depot for the area under its control. Mr Gibbons pointed out that such a scheme had been investigated and was not practicable. The material in question could not be purchased in bulk and the only method of securing it was to acquire it when and where it was offered for sale. OFFICERS ELECTED The following officers were elected: President, Mr A. E. Gibbons; vice-pre-sidents, Mesdames Godfrey (Taumarunui) and Downes (Te Awamutu), Messrs W. A. Clark (Te Aroha), and F. W. Course (Hamilton); secretary, Mrs A. M. Wycherley; honorary auditor, Mr R. English; New Zealand delegates, Messrs A. E. Gibbons and W. A. Clark.
