LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
EQUALITY OF SACRIFICE Sir, —Now that the effect of the Arbitration Court’s order of March 31 is apparent (in broad terms it means that each male trade unionist gets a rise of 5s a week). I must renew my protest at the comparatively small pay to the members of the rank and file in the armed forces, namely, 7s a day. If the Judge’s arguments in support' of the order are correct, why should not at least the same rise be granted to our soldiers? If trade unionists are granted further financial assistance, while increasing sacrifices are demanded from the men “called up,” with no public protest, then the conscience of the civilian population is indeed at a low ebb.—Yours, etc., PATRIOT, Otorohanga.
