WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
THE TE AWAMUTU BRANCH MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu Women’s Institute was held in the Parish Hall on Friday last, Mrs G. Angus presiding over a fair attendance. After the Institute Prayer and the singing of “ God Defend New Zealand,” business was dealt with, members endorsing a proposal for the reform of the liquor trade. Followed two solos by Mrs Mathews, which were much appreciated, after which a dainty afternoon tea was served. Then followed a most interesting address by the Rev. Father Colgan, who took for his subject “ Mind Impressions of a Tour Through Europe.” So interesting was this talk that it was unanimously agreed to ask the reverend gentleman to speak again at some future date. This was the first meeting where the points prize was decided by popular vote. Competitions for May will be: Girls’ pyjamas (Red Cross), three pikelets, and best bloom. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
